Ola Elementary School students received certificates of recognition on Friday, March 15th from Ola Library Director, Robin Close. They were commended for returning their books – both on time and in a bag.
Saturday, April 13 – Book Club!
What a treat for the eight of us who attended the March 16th book club meeting. Gloria served crawdads and succotash in honor of the book under discussion, Where the Crawdads Sing. This novel was written by Delia Owens, who currently resides in N. Idaho, and it takes place in the coastal marshes of North Carolina. Gloria’s food contribution was very much appreciated. For some of us, crawdads were a first … and, for a few of us, maybe a last!
At our next book club meeting on Saturday, April 13th, we’ll be discussing Lisa Wingate’s 2017 New York Times bestseller, Before We Were Yours. The book is a haunting and compelling work of historical fiction, and the story moves between Southern power and prestige in present-day South Carolina and squalor and abuse in the 1930s and 40s in Tennessee. Please join us from 11:30 to 1 on April 13th. For more information, Robin Close, our Library Director, is happy to help.
Saturday, March 16 – Book Club!
Our next book club meeting is set for Saturday, March 16, at 11:30. We will be discussing #1 New York Times Bestseller Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. Ms. Owens currently calls Idaho her home, and this book is her first novel and a Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick.
“I can’t even express how much I love this book! I didn’t want this story to end!”– Reese Witherspoon
At our February 10 meeting, we had a great time discussing Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. Many thanks to Nancy and Marilyn who supplied us with yummy snacks!
Change in Choice of Book for February Book Club Meeting
Our faithful Library Director, Robin Close, was unable to immediately secure enough copies of Killers of the Flower Moon for our February Book Club Meeting. However, copies of this book will be available at the Ola Library later this month or sometime in February so plan on Killers of the Flower Moon being the topic of discussion at our March Book Club Meeting.
For the February meeting, Robin has ordered copies of Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman – a Reese Witherspoon Book Club Pick and #1 New York Times Bestseller. In the words of Reese Witherspoon: “Beautifully written and incredibly funny, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is about the importance of friendship and human connection. I fell in love with Eleanor, an eccentric and regimented loner whose life beautifully unfolds after a chance encounter with a stranger; I think you will fall in love, too!”
Robin will have copies of this book at the library on or before Saturday January 26. Please get hold of a copy and plan on attending our next book club meeting at 11:30am on Saturday, February 9th!
Saturday, February 9th – Book Club!
Please join us on February 9 at 11:30 for our next book club meeting. The book which we chose for this meeting is a bestseller by David Grann: Killers of the Flower Moon – The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. This novel is a true-life crime story about the Osage Indians and a fledgling FBI that eventually uncovered one of the most chilling conspiracies in American history.
Copies of Killers of the Flower Moon will soon be available at the library. Please check with our Library Director, Robin Close, for information. And we hope to see you at our next book club meeting. All are welcome!
NOTE: If you missed the January 12th book club meeting, you missed a fun happening – complete with homemade zucchini bread & delicious caramels! Seven of us were there, and the book under discussion was A Piece of the World. We gave this book mixed reviews – mainly because the main character wasn’t particularly charming and endearing. However, we had an enjoyable time talking about life in rural America in earlier times, the American artist Andrew Wyeth and how he figured into the story, and the author herself Christina Baker Kline.
